New hard-drive with new OS.

Steam is on old hard drive.
Is it as simple as "copy and paste" the root folder of steam? C:\\programfiles...\Steam
-Would I first need to DL the Steam client... and after installation; paste the old Steam over the top?
> as this would create a execution file for "steam" to start it up as the straight copy and paste wouldn't?

= the reason I ask is, I think I've tried this in the past and it didn't work.

i "copy pasted" my steam folder..

u just need to run steam from that folder... and it will work..

i.e: new folder = c:\steam

u need to use c:\steam\steam.exe to run it, else ur normal shortcuts wont work..

KTHNX!

I first dl'd steam and installed the base version onto my NEW HDD.
I then "copy and pasted" the old steam over onto the newly created one.

Looks as though it worked

1. Install steam
2. Copy over entire C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps folder
3. ?????
4. Enjoy a thoroughly good time playing games purchased via the steam network.

In this case you profit by retaining all of your steam games and settings. The time lost re-downloading and re-setting these things can be quite hefty, and as we all know; time is money.
